Guest Talk by Dr. Ganesh Bhuktar
9th of November 12 pm
Bangladesh and HCI:
Bangladesh is a South Asian country and is also one of the most densely populated countries in the world. Islam is its major religion with Bengali as a national language. Democracy and secularism are two vital aspects in its development, but they have been challenged occasionally. Its economic development is contributed by textile, agriculture, ship building and Information Technology (IT) industry. The IT education is promoted by hundreds of universities & institutes in Bangladesh.
Several user studies have been conducted there, as abundant users are available with less privacy concerns. Hence, usability testing and user interviews have been widely used in HCI-related research projects. The educational infrastructure and qualified work force supporting HCI and user experience design, have improved recently. A need for improvement in industry participation and sponsorships to HCI research is observed. The international HCI community needs to support local researchers in Bangladesh for such improvements in the coming years.
